Oct 20, 1999Frontier Airlines Maintenance Department Wins FAA's Diamond AwardDENVER (Oct. 20, 1999) - Frontier Airlines (Nasdaq: FRNT ) today announced its maintenance department will receive the prestigious Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Diamond Award. The award, which is the highest given by the FAA, recognizes advanced training for aircraft maintenance professionals throughout the airline industry. In order to receive the award, at least 25 percent of a company's aircraft maintenance technicians must complete certified training requirements beyond the technician's initial licensing. The airline will also receive the Aviation Maintenance Technician Employers Diamond Certificate of Excellence Award and will receive special recognition for having 100 percent of eligible employees complete the aviation maintenance training program. "We are extremely proud of our aircraft maintenance division," said Frontier President Sam Addoms. "In particular, that Frontier is the first airline to have 100 percent of eligible maintenance employees complete one of five phases of the aviation maintenance training program, is indicative of our maintenance employees' commitment to safety and remarkably high standard of excellence they have set for themselves." FAA officials from Washington D.C. and the Denver Flight Standards District Office will present Frontier and its maintenance employees with the Diamond Award at a ceremony on Friday, Oct. 22 at 12:30 p.m. at the airline's maintenance hangar facility at Denver International Airport. Denver-based Frontier Airlines commenced operations on July 5, 1994. Unlike other airlines, Frontier's low fares do not have a Saturday night stay requirement. In addition, Frontier offers frequent flyer miles in Continental Airlines' OnePass® program. The airline currently serves 21 cities coast to coast with a fleet of 19 Boeing 737 jets and employs approximately 1,800 travel professionals. Frontier was recently named "Best Domestic Low-Fare Air Carrier" by Entrepreneur magazine in the publication's sixth annual Business Travel Awards. Ernst & Young LLP recently presented Frontier Airlines with the Rocky Mountain Region Entrepreneur of the Year® Award in the services sector.
