Frontier Airlines Issues Statement of Support for Air Transportation Improvement Act
DENVER (Oct. 6, 1999) - Frontier Airlines (Nasdaq: FRNT ) today issued the following statement regarding action taken yesterday by the U.S. Senate in approving the Air Transportation Improvement Act (S-82):
"We applaud the Senate's action today and in particular, recognize that without the vision of Senators McCain, Harkin and Grassley, this initiative would not have been successful," said Frontier President Sam Addoms. "Frontier was founded on the principles of competition and choice and we support any undertaking that will further level the playing field in three of the nation's largest metropolitan areas. We intend to be at the head of the line and will aggressively pursue the opportunity to provide additional affordable service for consumers and the markets we serve."
The Air Transportation Improvement Act (S-82) calls for additional slot allocations (one slot is one take-off or landing right) at Washington's Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA), New York's LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD). In addition, the bill calls for perimeter exemptions at DCA. The perimeter rule currently limits flights flying into or out of DCA to 1,250 miles.
Denver-based Frontier Airlines commenced operations on July 5, 1994. Unlike other airlines, Frontier's low fares do not have a Saturday night stay requirement. In addition, Frontier offers frequent flyer miles in Continental Airlines' OnePass® program. The airline currently serves 21 cities coast to coast with a fleet of 19 Boeing 737 jets and employs approximately 1,800 travel professionals. Frontier was recently named "Best Domestic Low-Fare Air Carrier" by Entrepreneur magazine in the publication's sixth annual Business Travel Awards. Ernst & Young LLP recently presented Frontier Airlines with the Rocky Mountain Region Entrepreneur of the Year® Award in the services sector.
