The Russell indexes capture the 3,000 largest U.S. stocks as of the end of May and then rank the stocks by total market capitalization, creating the Russell 3000â Index. The largest companies in the rankings are classified in the Russell 1000â Index, while the remaining 2,000 companies comprise the Russell 2000â Index. The Russell indexes allow investors to track current and historical market value performance by specific market segment (large cap/small cap) or investment style (growth/value). Membership in the Russell indexes is determined strictly by market capitalization rankings and style attributes. The index membership is effective on July 1 and remains in place for one year. The rebalanced lists are currently available on Frank Russell Company's Web site ( http://www.russell.com ).
