Apr 14, 1999Frontier Airlines Announces New Student Discount ProgramAirline to Introduce Student Discount Travel Program at Illinois State UniversityBLOOMINGTON/NORMAL, IL. (April 14, 1999) - Frontier Airlines (NASDAQ: FRNT ) today announced it will introduce its new Student Program at Illinois State University (ISU) on Wednesday and Thursday, April 14 and 15. The airline plans to test the new program in Bloomington/Normal and if the program is successful, the airline will unroll it in additional markets. The airline's new Student Program allows college students to purchase one round-trip ticket for $120 to any of the airline's 19 destinations. Travel is valid from April 20, 1999 through Oct. 28, 1999. Students must present a valid college identification card or current course schedule printout to purchase these special tickets. Frontier representatives will be on hand at ISU this week to answer travel-related questions, distribute collateral material and sign students up for the airline's new Student Program. The new program will also provide special e-mail travel offers to participating students. In addition, attendees will be able to register for trip giveaways. "Our new Student Program is designed to offer special discount fares to college students who might not otherwise have an opportunity to travel," said Frontier Director of Marketing Programs Lowell Miller. "In addition, as Frontier broadens its use of technology to sell its product, we want to ensure that we are reaching customers who are comfortable with that technology. College students are one of the largest user groups of Web-based technology. We look forward to communicating with this audience via the Frontier Web site and through select e-mail travel offers." Denver-based Frontier Airlines commenced operations on July 5, 1994. Unlike other airlines, Frontier's low fares do not have a Saturday night stay requirement. In addition, Frontier offers frequent flier mileage points in Continental Airlines' OnePass® program. The airline currently serves 19 cities coast to coast with a fleet of 18 Boeing 737 jets and employs approximately 1,500 travel professionals. Frontier was recently named ``Best Domestic Low-Fare Air Carrier'' by Entrepreneur magazine in the publication's sixth annual Business Travel Awards.
